The Statements of Accounts are produced every year by the PCC and the Chief Constable. The law requires the accounts to comply with national accounting standards.

Statement of Accounts 2019/20

The audit of the financial statements of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside and its subsidiary the Chief Constable for Merseyside Police (the ‘group’) financial statements for the year ending 31st March 2020 has been completed, although the external auditor, Grant Thornton UK LLP, have yet to issue their certificate of completion of the audit.

An ‘unqualified opinion’ on the financial statements was issued on 3rd December 2020. On the same date Grant Thornton UK LLP also issued an ‘unqualified conclusion’ on the Group’s arrangements for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources as required by the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 (the “Act”), the National Audit Office’s Code of Audit Practice and supporting guidance.

However, Grant Thornton UK LLP have not issued their certificate of completion of the audit at this time because they cannot formally conclude the audit and issue an audit certificate until they have completed the work necessary to issue our Whole of Government Accounts Component Assurance statement for the year ended 31st March 2020.
